Aramco Stadium

In the current reported plan
Aramco Stadium stadium artwork

The Aramco Stadium in Khobar is the sprinter of the 2034 programme: while other venues were still renders and arguments, this one was rising out of the ground. Reporting in October 2026 described it as nearing completion — the first new World Cup stadium in Saudi Arabia to get there.

Built by Saudi Aramco in the Eastern Province, the 46,096-seat stadium takes its design cues from the Gulf itself, with sweeping forms inspired by the sails and whirlpools of the coast it overlooks. It is due to host matches at the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, seven years before its World Cup moment.

Design from the sea

The stadium's architecture, led by Foster + Partners, wraps the bowl in a series of sail-like segments — a reference to the dhow boats that worked this coast for centuries — and the whole building is arranged to catch Gulf breezes. At night, lit from within, it is designed to read as a lantern on Khobar's northern skyline.

Inside, the bowl is a single continuous sweep in the modern style: steep, close, and loud. At 46,096 seats it sits at the intimate end of this tournament's range, which players and fans usually end up loving most.

Asian Cup first, World Cup second

Saudi Arabia hosts the AFC Asian Cup in January 2027, and the Aramco Stadium is one of its headline venues. That tournament is the real test event: continental crowds, broadcast operations, and a Khobar crowd learning its new home years before FIFA arrives.

After the Asian Cup, the stadium is expected to become home to Al-Qadsiah, the Khobar club owned by Aramco, whose rise in the Saudi Pro League mirrors the region's investment in sport. A resident club, a test tournament and years of bedding-in: this is the lowest-risk venue in the entire plan.

A note of honesty

Construction reporting in March 2025 recorded the death of a migrant worker, Muhammad Arshad from Pakistan, in a fall at this site — the first reported worker death on a 2034 stadium project. Human-rights organisations have pressed FIFA and Saudi authorities on worker welfare across the programme. A guide that pretends otherwise would not be worth trusting, so we record it here and in our news coverage.

Status: proposed in the Saudi bid book (July 2024) and included in the ten-stadium plan described by October 2026 reporting. Final stadium lists require FIFA confirmation.
